I was living in New York and someone by the name of Ray Bennett gave me a call. He told me he was from the band Flash which did not ring a bell. Days after that phone call I realize that I had seen that band which opened for Alice Cooper and I thought they were a good progessive band. I visited him and we played some music together but most of the time he would tell me stories about the music business. One story that I found interesting was that the founding member of FLASH the former guitar player from the famous band YES Peter Banks had his picture on one of the YES albums and when he was replaced by Steve Howe they put Howes picture over the picture of Peter Banks. I thought that was strange. I brought one of my friends with me to meet Ray. The meeting went well. My friend then introduced me to the famous jazz flutist Jeremy Steig. But that is another story. Peace.

HOW I GOT INTO MUSIC
People ask me all the time,"How did you get into music?" It started
when I was ten when the english invasion was happening in America.
My brother played drums and I played guitar. A friend also played
guitar. We found a singer who brought in another guitar player. We
needed a bass guitar. So I said I would do it. The bass came naturally
to me. We had a full band and we started practicing to get gigs.
The "ODDS & ENDS" came to be. We played at school
and teen dances. We recorded a 45 record. We got a manager who
had us play in NYC. THE LEMON PIPERS had a number one hit called
GREEN TAMBOURINE. Their producer was IRVIN SPICE. He came
to a bar we were playing at, that had allot of drunk and sweaty people.
He offer us a record deal. One problem,we were all under age and
none of our parents would sign the contract. I have been making a
living with music ever since that time. Those were fun days,

THE LYDIAN MODE
Some of my private students have been asking about The Lydian Mode,so here it is: It is a major scale with a #4th which creates a tritone which is a modern sound used by metal, fusion, jazz bands etc. The C lydian mode is a G major scale starting from C to C. Lets first look at the notes of a G major scale which are: GABCDE(#F)G next I will write out the G major scale starting with C. CDE(#F)GABC this is a C lydian scale. The best way to get a lydian scale is to # the 4th tone of a major scale. The lydian scale is used against major chords with alter tones such as the #11 and the b5 but can also be used against a major chord. The Lydian scale is a better choice than the major scale because the 4th of a major scale is without resolution. The #4th of the lydian scale is a less dissonant tone. I have to stop now because I want to watch a certain TV show. Good luck!
