JOHNNY WINTER IS GONE!

My memories of Johnny Winter are many. His early recordings were great! The first time I heard Rollin' and Tumblin' was by Cream. When I heard Johnny Winter's version it blew me away.  I recorded that song using  Johnny Winter's drummer.

 Don Mazza opened-up for Johnny Winter at Toad's Place. He invited me to the show. The top picture is Tom my recording engineer who has worked with Sting, The Grateful Dead, Diana Ross and many others.

Movie Director Paul Mazursky dies.

 I was doing some  tv shows in NYC.  I was called by a talent agency to be an extra in a movie.
The movie was directed by Paul Mazursky. I had to go to Queens to the Kaufman studios. The thing that I remembered the most was that we were filming a scene and one of the actors told me to make sure that I talked during the scene because you get paid more. Action was called, me and the other actors started talking to each other, Mazursky called cut and said all extras stop talking. This took place a couple of times. Then finally Mazursky yelled out "If the extras don't stop talking your all fired." However I was asked to come back the next the day. It was a fun experience. I'll take someone out to the movies in honor of Mazursky,  Later.

SUN DRAGON STUDIO (Recording LETS FALL IN LOVE)

Recently I found an old recording I did a long time ago in Manhattan at Sun Dragon Studio. Ed Finaldi  played violin. He also played in the orchestra of  The Dave Brubeck's Christmas Concert which I performed in. My brother played drums and did some vocals. I can't remember the name of the sax player but he had to do a wedding gig and we were not sure if he would make it back in time. The recording engineer  said that Edgar Winter who had the hit song Frankenstein  lived around the corner and he could get him to play sax. I was hoping the sax player wouldn't come back but he did. Many years later I did a gig with Bobby T who Played with Johnny Winter. I can't remember the name of the bass player. He took bass or guitar lessons from me when he was a kid. I was looking for a bass player auditioning people without any luck and out of the blue this kid who was nineteen came to visit me. He got the gig and did a great job I just wish I could remember his name. A nameless girl did background vocals.I wrote the song and did vocals and guitar. I gave a copy to Steve Katz who I met in Yorktown and he told me he couldn't figure the chords out but that is another story I might blog about in the future.  The Name of the song is: LET'S FALL IN LOVE  I'm thinking of putting it on one of my new CDs

 but I'm not sure. Good day!

THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW (My first appearance)

I was playing in a working wedding band when a friend of  mine called me up and asked me to join a rock band. I knew it would be for less money but it would be much more fun. I said yes. The first gig was a bar called the Dug Out. Much to my surprise the bar was packed with a line of people outside waiting to pay admission.
It was a wild bar crowd with great energy. A drunk lady came up to me while I was playing and she put her hand in my pants pocket and left a crumble piece of paper with the phone number of  THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW and a message to call the show. It was difficult getting in touch with the show but finally I was in Joe Franklin's office which led me to 2 appearance on his WWOR  CHANNEL 9 my first national TV show.

THE LOST TAPES OF JACO PASTORIUS

Lost tapes of JACO PASTORIUS  found. The recording was at the Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach.
the year of the recording was 1973. Joe Diorio guitar. Diorio was an early influence on Jaco. Ira Sullivan trumpet. Alex Darqui piano and Steve Bagby drums. The recording will have a future release. Great find for Jaco fans. I have a copy and the sound was ahead of its time. Peace!
